Expert’s simple £1.50 hack to remove scratches from plates and bowls

When you have guests it’s nice to bring out the posh dining set. But if it’s been well-used, scratches can really take the shine off your favourite set of crockery.

However a TikToker has swooped into the rescue – and given a tip that’s left fellow users of the platform in shock at just how easy it is.

Alice – a mum of three from Yorkshire – shared the hack on her account @alicejudgex which has more than 3,000 followers, with the clip watched more than 70,000 times.

All it requires is a cloth and a £1.50 cleaning product called The Pink Stuff, which is available from supermarkets.

Alice said: “If you’ve got scratched plates and bowls just like this one, carry on watching.

“All you need is a cloth, some of The Pink Stuff paste and simply all you need to do is get some of it on your cloth and just wipe it around your bowl or your plate. After that you rinse it off and it’s as good as new.

“This is gonna save you a fortune literally. Look at the shine on that. How have I only just found this out.”

Happy homemakers rushed into applaud Alice for the advice that’s super simple to follow.

One said: “Omg! Thank you so much, I have those exact bowls and plates…I am trying this right now.”

Another said: “It actually works!! I was sceptical! Thanks for the tip.”

“I am going to try that now,” said another.

Meanwhile Brenna Ryan, bathroom and kitchen expert at Victorian Plumbing, told Wales Online about the TikTok hacks which don’t work and should be avoided when spring cleaning, in an effort to warn others of the dangers.

Vinegar has gained popularity as a cleaning solution in numerous households, with online tips highlighting its versatility in various areas of the home. But while effective for tackling dirt and grime, it’s essential to exercise caution when using vinegar for spring cleaning.

The acid in vinegar can potentially harm certain surfaces like treated wood, laminate flooring, and natural stone such as marble and granite. They also warned against using bleach on bathroom grout.
