These two French towns inspired Beauty and the Beast – visit them on your next trip | Travel News | Travel

Riquewihr, about an hour drive from Strasbourg, has streets that look like they were taken straight out of the movie. It’s been labelled one of the “prettiest villages in France” and has bright and colourful houses lining the cobblestone pathways.

Other than traversing its winding thoroughfares, travellers should check out the city’s wine cellars, according to Traveling Igloo. It has a strong winery community, offering tastings and delicious food.

The town is also known for its markets, where shoppers can buy fresh fruits and vegetables, cheeses, meats, jewellery, clothes and more. It also has a Christmas market during December that feels like a perfect winter wonderland.

Don’t miss…

Ribeauvillé is one of the oldest mediaeval towns in France’s Alsace region. Its architecture has a historical flare, near the ruins of the Three Castles of the Lords of Ribeaupierre.

The town’s picturesque vineyards have been around since the Middle Ages, says Visit Alsace. It also has local shops and markets to peruse, and visitors should plan their trips during one of the community’s renowned festivals, like the Wine Fair or the Festival of Ancient Music.

Want to visit both? The two villages are about a 10 minutes drive from each other.
