The Beatles – Odds slashed on Paul McCartney classic topping UK chart | Music | Entertainment

Last year, The Beatles topped the UK chart with their final song, Now and Then, featuring the recorded singing of John Lennon.

Before that, the Fab Four hadn’t hit No 1 since 1969’s The Ballad of John and Yoko.

And now a Paul McCartney Beatles classic could well hit the top spot in the UK singles chart this summer.

Coral bookmakers have announced that Hey Jude has gone from 8-1 to 2-1 after being adopted by England football fans as their anthem for the 2024 Euros.

McCartney wrote the 1968 single to comfort Julian Lennon, John Lennon’s eldest son after his father left his mother for Yoko Ono.

Coral’s John Hill said: “It appears as though Hey Jude is this summer’s adopted England anthem, just as Sweet Caroline was at the last European Championship. After the success Jude Bellingham has had on the pitch, we have seen a wave of support in our betting on the Beatles song topping the official singles charts this summer.”

Upon its release, Hey Jude was 1968’s top selling single in the UK, US, Australia and Canada. Considered one of the greatest songs of all time, it has sold around eight million copies over the years.
