Paul McCartney Beatles classic set to hit UK No 1 as odds slashed again | Music | Entertainment

It was an incredibly close one on Sunday evening when England beat Slovakia, after Jude Bellingham’s heroic goal in the final minute of regular time kept them in the game.

As the Lions journey to the Euro 2024 final, The Beatles classic Hey Jude continues to be belted out by fans in honour of the young superstar footballer.

In fact, Paul McCartney’s 1968 song, written to comfort John Lennon’s son Julian after his parents’ divorce, looks set to be UK No 1 once again over 50 years on.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “We were seconds away from pricing up Gareth Southgate’s imminent replacement but, hey… Jude made things a whole lot better for his boss – and the whole nation – and we’re expecting the Beatles classic to top the charts over the next few weeks.”

As it stands Hey Jude has odds of 11/10, which is almost odds-on, to hit No 1 in the UK singles chart before the end of July.

Meanwhile, England are the 7/2 favourites to win Euro 2024 after losing out on penalties to Italy in the final last time around.

Upon its release, Hey Jude was 1968’s top selling single in the UK, US, Australia and Canada. Considered one of the greatest songs of all time, it has sold around eight million copies over the years.
