One of the worst British movies of the year is top of Apple TV+ film chart | Films | Entertainment

When Kingsman director Matthew Vaughn announced Henry Cavill was set to finally channel James Bond in new spy movie Argylle, fans couldn’t be more excited.

That was until the film was released in cinemas back in February and it turned out to be a cruelly deceptive 1 star snooze fest.

The abysmal disappointment’s clickbait poster had promised the likes of Cavill, Dua Lipa and John Cena, who barely cameo in the film about a spy novel writer.

With just 33 per cent positive review on Rotten Tomatoes, the British blockbuster is one of the worst films of the year and bombed at the box office.

Argylle took just $96.2 million on a $200 million budget and that’s not even counting the marketing costs.

Nevertheless, Argylle is somehow finding new life on streaming over on Apple TV+. The service has few original movies to choose from but for the past several weeks the spy movie has been top of its film chart.

Given the poor box office performance, we’d doubt that a sequel will get green-lit even though a spin-off was teased in the mid-credits scene.

During the sequence, a younger Argylle is recruited by the Kingsman agency before a note on screen promised Argylle Book One – The Movie.

By the sounds of it this would be the film that audiences had actually wanted rather what Argylle turned out to be. Vaughn has also teased that a crossover with his Kingsman movies is planned.

Argylle is streaming on Apple TV+ now.
