Man discovers toaster cleaning hack by finding ‘hidden’ compartment

A man was left gobsmacked after finding a “hidden” tray in his toaster. He had been cleaning it by unplugging and shaking it over the bin, but he recently discovered a tray that slides out from the bottom where all the crumbs gather.

He shared his find on Reddit, telling people to “empty your toaster tray”, thinking others might not know about this feature too. His post struck a chord with many, as it seems he wasn’t the only one who didn’t know about this easier way to clean the toaster.

One person joked: “I haven’t looked, but I bet mine looks like the top of an apple crumble.”

Another exclaimed: “Oh wow I just found a loaf’s worth of crumbs,” while another said: “Very bizarre, I JUST did this yesterday for the first time in however long. Also, we may have the same toaster!”

Another admitted: “I know about it, but it took a good 15 years of owning a toaster to realise it.”

Someone else warned: “It can be a fire risk if it is not emptied on a fairly regular basis.”

Do you know how often you should you clean your toaster?

An expert from Morphy Richards suggests doing it “at least once a week”. This is because crumbs in the toaster tray can smoke or burn, so it needs to be done regularly.
