‘I’m a makeup artist – here are 3 common mistakes adding years to your face’

Wayne Goss, who boasts over four million YouTube followers and also runs the cosmetics site Wayne Goss, said: “The majority of us will be using makeup to help improve how we look, or even help cover up some wrinkles we’ve gained over the years.

“However, due to some mistakes, the makeup that we’re wearing could actually be doing the opposite effect, and could potentially be adding not just one or two, but up to 10 years to our face.”

In order to keep looking youthful, Wayne has shared three mistakes to avoid making when perfecting a makeup routine.

1. Avoid metallic eyeshadow

The artist said: “Avoid metallic eyeshadows and instead, opt for a matte. Matte generally works best as it doesn’t draw attention to wrinkled areas or creases.

“Powder is also easier to apply over creams, especially as it’s easier to blend with a good quality brush.”

However, never blend eyeshadow with a finger as good quality brushes are made with the intention to blend well with hooded eyes and fine lines.

2. The type of concealer

Many people often go lighter with their concealer in the hope that it will brighten their complexion.

However, according to the expert, this can “add years” to your face, and its recommended to get the colour that suits your skin tone.

Wayne explained: “Cream concealer is always recommended above liquids, and I’d highly recommend applying some on the inner corner of your eye, as that’s the one part of the eye that doesn’t crease.”

3. Always hydrate and use a primer

The make-up artist continued: “As we get older, our skin will naturally become drier, which is why hydrating ingredients are so important as you get into your older age.

“Look for ingredients such as hyaluronic acid when you’re on your next shopping haul to ensure that your products are keeping your skin hydrated.

“Before you start applying anything to your face, ensure that you’ve applied a heavy moisturiser to ensure your skin stays hydrated.”

Use a good primer before you start applying the makeup to ensure it acts as a barrier between your skin and makeup.

This will help it to stay in the right places all day, rather than sit in the fine lines, according to Wayne.
