How to banish insects from houseplants with gardener’s three-ingredient hack

If your cherished Monstera is being nibbled away by hungry insects, it’s good to know it could be saved by this simple solution.

Indoor plants, far from just adding a touch of nature’s elegance to our homes, serve multiple purposes. They enhance indoor air quality, aid in moisture absorption and contribute to dust reduction.

However, they tend to attract a variety of critters that feast on their leaves and infest the home. Instead of resorting to costly and chemical-laden pest repellents, Brits are singing praises for a three-ingredient natural spray which does a commendable job….

The popular TikTok user Creative Explained, who has pulled in more than six million followers with his clever life hacks, shared his recipe for a reliable insect deterrent. “Just grab a red onion, roughly dice it up, put it in some kind of container or bowl,” he instructed.

“Then grab two garlic cloves, dice them up and add them in. Add one teaspoon of cayenne pepper, fill it up with water, stick it in the fridge and let it sit there for about 12 hours.”

The creative guru then strains the concoction, transferring it to a spray bottle. He attests that the ‘non-toxic’ mixture will fend off aphids, slugs, spider mites, and other destructive bugs from your houseplants.

“Spray directly on the leaves of your plants and watch the magic,” he suggested. All three ingredients can be found at your local supermarket or green grocers.

The hack attracted hundreds of gardening enthusiasts who flocked to the comments section to share it with their friends and family. “Love it! This will keep humans away too,” one user quipped.

Another concurred, remarking: “FINALLY!!! I’ve tried a lot of stuff on my palm and HATE having poison sprayed on them!” A third chimed in: “Needed this for my raised garden beds.”

While a fourth simply stated: “This is great! “.

However, not everyone was impressed with the hack, with many arguing that it either ‘didn’t work’ or actually damaged their plant. “FAIL. It was like a salad dressing for the bugs,” one user complained.

Another added: “Man, I tried this concoction and the only thing it did was make me smell like something awful. Epic fail.”
