EON offers customers who work from home £913 off energy bills | Personal Finance | Finance

EON customers who work from home are being offered a huge £913 off their bills.

The savings apply to those working from home or are otherwise home all day for any other reason.

The energy firm has this week emailed customers with a message offering them a whopping £713 off bills over the next year, with a further £200 off the cost of solar panel installation.

E.On told customers they could not only get money off their bills but could ‘earn money back’ over the next year thanks to the panels, which generate electricity from sunlight and can see big savings for households over their lifetime both from reduced up front costs and payments for generating power for the National Grid.

The email seen by the Express said: “We’re here to share some exciting news with you. You could start saving up to £713 a year on your energy with a little help from the sun.

“With our exclusive solar SEG tariffs you can also earn money back by exporting excess solar energy generated by your solar panel system into the grid. So, you could literally save some cash by harnessing the sun.

“As an E.ON Next customer, we’re also offering up to £200 off solar panels and battery system.”

The company went on to clarify that the figures are based on a property which has a south-facing solar array fitted, located in central England, on a roof with a ‘35 degree tilt’ and ‘no shading’.

The property would also be using 4,800kWh of electricity units per year “with the customer home all day.”

EON clarified: “These are example figures only, based on standardised MCS calculations. Savings are based on property fitted with a south-facing solar array in central England on a roof with a 35-degree tilt and no shading, with electricity consumption of 4,800 kWh per year (with the customer Home all day), at a tariff rate of 22.40p/kWh (the Ofgem Energy Price Cap rate from 01 July 2024).

“The solar array contains 12 x 435W panels (5.22 kWp) generating 4,881 kWh/year, fitted with a 5.1 kWh (5.1 kWh usable) battery.”

The cost of solar panels starts off at about £5,000 from EON although other installers are available and prices can vary.

At a cost of £7,500 with a battery and savings of £700 a year, you would make your money back within 12 years, and enjoy another roughly 13 years of profits before the panels need replacing – although if energy prices went up, you could make your money back even sooner.
